The Power of One

This 2007 image won the Pulitzer prize for Breaking News Photography in 2007.  The image show a 
lone Jewish woman’s defiance from Israeli force trying to remove illegal settlers in the West 
Bank.  The image shows one woman’s determination to overcome insurmountable odds to fight for 
what she believes is right.  The photo captures what people have to go through to survive in that area.  

The photo was taken by Oded Balilty with the Associated Press.

This picture won the Pulitzer Breaking News Photography 2007 award. Photo’s citation reads, 
“Awarded to Oded Balilty of The Associated Press for his powerful photograph of a lone Jewish 
woman defying Israeli security forces as they remove illegal settlers in the West Bank."
