  Barn Owl

SEXES  Alike, but $ oflen slightly darker. Similar to African Grass-Owl but paler and with grey-

ish back.

JUV  Like ad.

STATUS  Widespread br resident.

HABITAT  Prefers open habitats (not forest), but commonly associated with man-made structures, which are used for roosting and br.

FOOD  Mainly small rodents, also birds, insects, lizards, frogs and termites.

CALL  Long hissing screech schreeeee.

BR  Monogamous. Frequently in man-made structures, including buildings and mine shafts, old Hamerkop nests or natural cavities in trees and cliffs.
