Alike. Rufous crown and side breast patches very distinctive. Short
erectile hind-crown crest normally held ﬂat; underparts variable but
usually white, sometimes with buffy ﬂanks.
Appears spotted above; buf/y below with brown spots.
Common resident. May be sedentary, nomadic, or a partial migrant.
Short grassland, agricultural ﬁelds and shrublands.
Seeds and insects.
Song a jumble of melodious phrases.
