  Yellow-billed Duck

 

Anas undulate

(104) 57 cm; 890 g

SEXES  Alike, M > F. Overall darkish plumage; bright yellow bill and green speculum distinctive.

JUV  Less clearly scaled than ad.

STATUS  Common resident, nomadic and in pairs or flocks from a few birds to hundreds.

HABITAT  Most open still water bodies.

FOOD  Mainly plant matter; to a lesser extent animal matter such as insect larvae and snails.

CALL  F quacks like domestic duck, a decrescendo quagagagaga; if mostly silent, gives low whistles.

BR  Monogamous. Nest placed in thick grass near water's edge.
