  Long-billed Crombec

 

 

Sylvietta rufescens

(651) 11 cm; 11 g

SEXES  Alike. Very short-tailed. Longer bill, whitish face and dark line through eyes easily separate it from Red-faced Crombec.

JUV  Like ad.

STATUS  Common resident, sedent­ary and usually in pairs or family groups.

HABITAT  Dry woodland with well-developed shrub and bush growth.

FOOD  Mainly insects; also seeds, fruit and aloe nectar.

CALL  Tripping chit-chirrit-chirrit-chirrit-chirrit...

BR  Monogamous. Hanging purse nest usually suspended from branch of bush or low tree, 1-2 m above ground. Parasitised by Klaas's Cuckoo.
