  Cinnamon-breasted Bunting

    (Rock Bunting)

 

Emberiza tahapisi

(886) 15 cm; 15 g

M  Key features separating it from Cape Bunting are cinnamon (not grey) underparts, blackish throat, yellowish-horn (not black) coloured bill and black and white striped head.

F  Overall paler.

JUV  Similar to F but flecked with brown below.

STATUS  Common, with both resident and br migrant populations.

HABITAT  Woodland with rocky substratum and boulders, rocky ridges, mountainsides, dry watercourses and quarries, etc.

FOOD  Seeds and some insects.

CALL  Fast, grating jumble of notes, repeated incessantly.

BR  Monogamous. Shallow cup nest built on ground.

ALT NAME  Rock Bunting.
