Alike. Could be confused with Southern Pied Babbler from front, but
rufous nape and brown back and tail distinctive. Yellow eyes with
bare black skin below and behind eyes.
Lacks rufous patch on side of neck, darker on back and nape than
juv Southern Pied Babbler.
Generally uncommon resident; locally common in a few localities.
Usually in parties of 4-6 birds.
Favours thickets along dry watercourses in arid Mopane- dominated
Sustained loud chattering by all members of group, similar to

built but dense bowl, placed about 2 m up in multiple fork of tree.
